Frank Pepe’s in New Haven - a must stop on the pizza lover’s pilgrimage trail! Felt like I was looking up at a Pizza god. One thing that interested me in this painting was how to include the sign-maker’s portrait of Frank without losing the feeling that it could be on a side-show-tent. At the same time not letting it overpower the sign’s typography. Ultimately my paintings are about more than the individual elements so there is always a need for balance of dominating images, typography, and color… and wrapping it up into a landscape that could be viewed as an abstract work.
